Rebeca Calvo was born in Madrid, Spain, where she graduated from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, with a BA in Fine Arts and MA in Design.
She developed a professional career as furniture designer, working in Europe, Asia and the US, creating numerous collections for the retail and contract markets and participating in major hotel projects. She worked as Senior Designer for Warisan (Indonesia), as Design Director for Totem Dream (Indonesia & Italy) and as a Managing Director for Warisan Inc. (USA).
Her work is characterized by the use of natural materials and the elegant fusion of styles, both modern and classic. She pays close attention to each client and users’ desires, needs and constraints, with a critical understanding of the needs of a FF&E designer, supplier or purchaser. She gained an extensive experience working closely with manufacturers internationally; this broad and deep technical knowledge brings key production insight into creating functional designs that last the test of time.
Design philosophy: Beauty must appeal to all our five senses, not just to our eyes. Touch, function and use are as important as the visual look. The goal is to reach interesting shapes, beauty, comfort and easy of use within client budget needs; to find a style that embraces and appeals to all cultures, while using products that respect our resources, our environment and the people who manufacture and enjoy them.
